If you’re still stocking your fridge up with ice cream from superstores, or relying on the ice cream van to bring you tasty frozen treats then check out our review of the Cuisinart ice – 70, you can make your own frozen desserts from ice cream, to frozen yoghurt, gelato or even sorbet!

The Cuisinart ICE-70 is a compact, easy-to-use ice cream maker, with a brushed stainless steel finish but rounded exterior. It won’t win any prizes for best looking kitchen appliance however it does look neat enough. Weighing 13lbs and measuring 9.5″ x 8.5″ x 13″ it is completely portable should you want to take it round to your friends or on holiday.

On the top of the ICE-70 is the see-through lid, it comes with a removable cup that doubles up as a measure (half a cup), this means that towards the end of the frozen desert creation process you can add in last ingredients like nuts or marshmallows! Inside the ICE-70 is a removable paddle that fits into the freezer bowl inside, please note it’s best to leave the freezer bowl in the freezer overnight before use.

There are six buttons on the front of the Cuisinart ICE-70 Electronic Ice Cream Maker, ice cream, gelato and sorbet, one starts and stops machine and the other two are up and down arrows to change the time for the function to run. For example if you select gelato it runs at a certain speed ideal for that iced desert, taking out some of the guesswork and streamlining the process. You can then run the machine for as long as you like, but there are recommended times given in the Cuisinart manual.

Frozen desert quality

The Cuisinart ICE-70 Ice Cream Maker can make many types of frozen treats however we decided to try ice cream first. The first thing to note is that it is very simple to use, just add the ingredients milk, sugar and salt, then whisk while adding heavy cream and flavoring of your choice. Then transfer the liquid into the ice-70, press the ice cream preset button, press the start button and the machine starts whirring the mixture. Then change the timer to your desired length for the cycle and after about 20 minutes it should be a great consistency and ready to eat. One thing I did notice while it was running was it was not quite loud but noticeable that it was on, however that’s hardly surprising given it can make up to 2 quarts of ice cream in 20 minutes.

The taste test was very successful, the result was a rich, luscious smooth texture that really did taste excellent, it genuinely seemed to taste better when I realized it was made from very basic ingredients that I have full control over. Obviously I had to try more than one preset function for the ice – 70, I chose sorbet which ran slower while mixing as you would expect giving a more icy finish that was very refreshing. It was incredibly simple to setup use however next was the cleaning!

Because many parts of the Cuisinart ICE-70 Electronic Ice Cream Maker are removable it doesn’t take long at all to wash off excess from the mixture. Simply remove the paddle, the freezer bowl, lid and removable cup and wash them all down, then re-attach once finished.

Amazon rating and reviews

the ICE-70 has a score of 4.6 out of 5.0, users compliment how simple it is to use some even claiming they bought another, one to give to family members! Reading through the reviews people obviously agree that it is fun having complete control over the flavor! However users did also agree that it can be slightly loud though most state because it’s only on for 20 minutes it’s not a problem at all.

Overall the Cuisinart ICE-70 Electronic Ice Cream Maker is a genuinely impressive desert maker that’s easy to use, fun for the family and is sure to be welcome in your home!
