Zojirushi NS-LAC05XT Micom Rice Cooker
The Zojirushi rice cooker holds 3 cups worth of 6 ounce/180 ml rice and is capable of cooking rice to near perfection, however it would be unfair to concentrate just that, it’s capable of cooking much more. Equipped with a microchip that calculates how long to cook for and what temperature depending on the rice, even with automatic steaming. It’s smarter than the average rice cooker.
A thermal sensor is activated during cooking to cook at a consistent temperature while heating the whole contents evenly, no more burned rice towards the bottom! It’s also really easy to clean with nonstick coating and a completely removable inner lid. The Zojirushi NS-LAC05XT has a basic layout, with a button to keep rice warm, a timer that can be customised depending on how long you want cook rice for and preset buttons for sushi, porridge, quick cooking, white and brown rice it is more versatile than just a rice cooker.
When you start the Zojirushi NS-LAC05XT the measurements within the inner pan give a good indication of how much rice is needed, while the other measurements do the same for water, It takes into account the differences in types of rice to help the user achieve the best results every time. Maybe the best Japanese rice cooker on the market due to it’s programming features.
With an LCD control panel the Zojirushi micon is easy to understand, the warm and reheat cycles make using leftovers even easier and there’s even a delay timer so you can cook rice that’s ready as you walk through the door!
Being smaller than a microwave the footprint of the Zojirushi Micom rice cooker delivers more than a single serving, if space is at a premium you need not worry, with a retractable cord it’s even more compact, you can even store the NS-LAC05XT in a cupboard. While a handle that fits around the unit makes it easy to pick up and put away too, great for portability.
Rice Cooker Reviews | Best Rice Cooker to Buy
Unlike most older models of rice cookers the NS-LAC05XT micon from Zojirushi has a removable inner container. This makes cleaning much easier, with its stainless steel inner pot getting sticky rice off the bottom of older models just requires bringing a damp cloth over and wiping the inner lid, instead of the wiping the whole unit down to clean it, possibly damaging the electrical wiring. Because of the ergonomic design users can take the container out and clean it like a bowl.
Tiger JNP-S18U HU Rice Cooker
After using many rice cookers over the years I came to the conclusion that they can be a very mixed bag,, however the Tiger JNP-S18U is marvellous. Despite its slightly higher price it takes only 15 minutes to cook rice while keeping it warm ready to eat.
Having owned the Tiger JNP-S18U rice cooker for four years I feel it has passed the durability tests, one time I had to go to the next door neighbours for a couple hours and completely forgot that I left this on. I came back expecting to find porridge instead however the rice hadn’t even turned brown, the rice was fluffy and didn’t stick. Used dozens of times since saving hours in total, giving warm fluffy weightless yet tasty rice every time. If there are any leftovers they’re great the next day.
Although rice cookers do a good job cooking rice, they don’t keep it soft for long. If you want to use the warm feature then a couple hours later the rice has browned and turned harder. If you like seconds later that day the Tiger JNP-S18U is the right call. Sometimes when I see this rice cooker sold at various supermarkets I smile to myself and check to see if anyone is considering, just to see if I can interject and tell them how good the Tiger rice cooker is!
After moving to three places over the years it’s proven it’s durability, the power cord retracts into the back of the slow cooker. The non-stick coating withstood the test of time also, the capacity is fine for me and friends but I would recommend thinking about the size of your family, whether you’re looking for the best small or large rice cooker and have many guests to cook for. The reason for this is they are available in over five different sizes and the larger the rice cooker, the larger the minimum amount of rice needed to be cooked.
Instant Pot IP-DUO60 7-in-1 Programmable Pressure Cooker
Instant pot have made a few improvements from the last model, first they have added a couple slots in the handles so you can hold the lid, useful for eliminating excess mess. They have included a low profile steamer rack, making it easier to lower food in to the pressure cooker. The LED display is now slightly larger so it’s readable from further away. A good feature if you found yourself crouching down to read the timer. The fourth and last feature to notice about the Instant Pot IP-DUO6 is the slimmer design which doesn’t substitute any of the capacity.
The Instant Pot IP-DUO60 7-in-1 Programmable Pressure Cooker, 6Qt/1000W has 10 safety features, to name the important ones, a safety lock lid, a thermal electrical fuse, leak detection, overpressure detection and a double anti-blockage vent. In our opinion the IP is the best rice cooker for brown rice also!
A slimmer design allows the IP-DUO60 fit in a smaller space within the kitchen while still having a 6 quart capacity. The first thing to notice when using the Instant Pot IP-DUO60 is that it detects the position of the lid, if the lid is in the correct position for cooking the display will state lid, while the noise is heard to confirm it is correctly positioned.
Rice cooker reviews 2017 |
It’s very easy to set up the IP-DUO60 because it’s pretty much self regulates it’s time, pressure and heat. With a interface with many buttons eight of them are responsible for particular foods, including rice, meat, steam, poultry and chilli. There are also buttons for adjusting heat and time and pressure, and keeping food warm.
The slow cooker program on the IP-DUO60 can be set anywhere from 30 minutes to 20 hours with a choice of low medium or high temperature. You can also sauté in one of three temperatures as well, pressure cooking comes in two options, low and high. Low pressure is approximately 7 psi and high-pressure is about 11 psi. The IP-DUO60 even has a yoghurt button!
Our opinion – Best rice cooker
With over 4000 reviews on Amazon the Instant Pot IP-DUO60 7-in-1 Programmable Pressure Cooker is a popular product enjoyed in many homes. With a rating of 4.7 from 5.0 it beats the other two competitors, while offering more adaptability in the foods it can cook, not sacrificing any quality in any of the cooking!
The Zojirushi NS-LAC05XT Micom Rice Cooker is a close second, however the Instant Pot is a little more versatile and gets our vote.
